Paula is the devoted daughter of Paul and Jean Waters, who lost her battle with dementia in 2019. “Mom” was born in Etowah, NC and moved in the 1950s to Miami, FL where she was in the first graduating class of female detectives. The slow and painful decline in her health and cognition left our family struggling as we mourned for the vibrant, giving and funny woman who had been the lifeblood of our family. Mom wore hats and had a collection of over 300 headpieces at one point. Today, I wear hats in her memory and see to honor her by chairing the Purple Gala to End Alzheimer’s – and all dementia.
